Website sponsored by Zaia Arthur & Associates Knox City FC - The first club in Victoria to be accredited under the FFV's Club Excellence program New Improved Website As we have changed our name and logo, we have taken the opportunity of creating a new, improved website which is in the final stages of production. It is anticipated that the new website www.knoxcityfc.com.au will be up and running within 2-3 weeks. Change over may see this site go down for a 24-48 hour period whilst we switch domains. We intend to keep any down time to a minimum. We will arrange for a pointer from this site to the new site so that people still logging into this site will be re-directed to the new site. Benefits of the new site will include feeds from the FFV site and the ability to upload photos as well as being more manageable behind the scenes.
Senior Function Put this date in your diary - Saturday 20th March at 7.00 pm. A function will be held in the Clubrooms at which the Knox City Teams of the Decades will be announced. Five teams covering the sixty years of Knox City's existence will be selected. Entry $10 only. Further details to follow.

Junior Registration Dates The Board has set the following dates for 2010 registrations - Tuesday 9th February - Under 12 Boys, Under 13 Boys and Under 14 Boys Tuesday 16th February - Under 15 Boys, Under 16 Boys Tuesday 23rd February - Under 13/14 Girls, Under 15/16 Girls, Under 18 Girls Tuesday 2nd March - All Small-sided Football (5-8 years, Under 9/10 and Under 11) Registration fees for 2010 will be accepted by cash or cheque only (no EFTPOS available). Birth Certificates will need to be provided for all players who have not been registered with any club before. If anyone needs confirmation of the 2010 fees they can either talk with their Team Manager or email knoxcitysoccerclub@dodo.com.au with the age of the player and whether it is for a boys or girls competition.

24th All Nations Cup Ireland won the 24th All Nations Cup when they beat Scotland 4-3 on penalties after normal and extra time could not separate the two teams. This was Ireland's first win since 1986 when concidentally they also beat Scotland..More
Pre Season Training for Seniors Pre-season training for the First and Reserve teams will commence on Thursday 10th December at 6.45 pm at Egan Lee Reserve. New Name - New Era At the Annual General Meeting last night, a motion was passed to change the name of our Company to Knox City Football Club Limited and to register the Club as Knox City FC with the Football Federation of Victoria. To this end, today we have formally notified ASIC of our name change and submitted the change of name request to the FFV. We have had a new logo drafted and we will now progressively start to change our look. We will do this within budgetary constraints and it will take some time before everything has been changed.
Annual General Meeting This is a reminder that the Annual general Meeting takes place on Thursday at Egan Lee Reserve at 7.30 pm. A quorum of 20 members is needed to enable the meeting to proceed. Update - A quorum was not achieved so the meeting will take place next Thursday at 7.30 pm. A quorum will be how ever many attend this meeting, so the meeting will proceed.
Junior Trials for 2010 The Under 13 Boys will hold their trials on Sundays 6th and 13th December. Please note that the Under 14A team trials will take place on Wednesday 18th November at Egan Lee Reserve at 6.00 pm sharp. Also the Under 15 Boys will have their trials on 21st and 28th November. This team will commence its pre-season on Tuesday 17th November at Waverley Christian College at 6.00. New players are welcome to attend any Tuesday evening session. I have updated the schedule below

Head Coach for 2010 The Club is pleased to announce that former Premier League player and coach, Gary Groenewald has been appointed Head Coach for the 2010 season. Gary's last coaching position was at FC Bulleen and he has just returned from a three and a half week visit to an English Premier League team where he was given access to study their coaching methods. Gary has a well-deserved reputation as a developer of young talent and we are very excited that he accepted our offer to coach Knox City. Peter Veljovic will be Gary's assistant. Pre-season training will commence on Thursday 10th December at Egan Lee Reserve.

Annual General Meeting The Club's Annual General Meeting will take place at the Clubrooms, Egan Lee Reserve, Wallace Road, Knoxfield on Thursday 12th November 2009 at 7.30 p.m. Notice of this meeting, together with the Agenda and an Explanatory Memorandum have been emailed to all members who provided an email address. Any Resolution that Members wish to place before this meeting must be received 14 days before the meeting and be signed by at least 5% of Members. Anyone wishing to nominate for the following Board positions must submit a signed nomination, seconded by another Member to be received before the date of the Meeting - One Director representing the Senior Section. Cor Teeuw retires by rotation and offers himself for re-election. One Director representing the Junior Section. Sue McDonald was elected to fill a casual vacancy and offers herself for election. One Director representing the entire Club (an Independent). Norm Edgar retires by rotation and offers himself for re-election. Leigh Broxham wins NAB Rising Star of the Month Award for September Former Knox City player, and current member of the Melbourne Victory team, Leigh Broxham has been awarded the NAB Rising Star of the Month for the A-League. The award also brings benefits to his former club in that we will receive a prize to the value of $3,000. It is likely that the award will be presented at the Club, but we are still trying to confirm the date and time. Further details as they come to hand. Well done Leigh and our thanks to the NAB for their support of grassroots clubs.
Anthony Edgar wins another Best and Fairest Award Anthony Edgar won another Knox City Best and Fairest award on a count-back from Sebastian Barrero. With both players on the same number of votes, the award was decided on the number of 3 vote games and Anthony had one more of these than Sebastian. Sebastian collected two other trophies - Best Under 21 Player and Players' Player awards. Edin Becirovic won the Best and Fairest Award in the Reserves. Full details to follow.
Port Melbourne 5 Knox City 0 A forgettable end to a very forgettable season. Two goals in two minutes just after the half hour mark made the task difficult. Andy Hughes then picking up two yellow cards in two minutes shortly after made it impossible. The second half was largely on way traffic with the only bright spot for us being the debut of 15 year old Matt Evans. Matt, a member of our Under 15 Super League team has played 12 games for the Reserves and scored 11 goals and fully deserved his first team introduction. The Reserves finished their season on a good note with a 4-1 victory over one of only two teams to beat it this year. They finished with 18 wins and 2 draws in 22 matches to win the League by a whopping nine points. Report has been posted.More

Major Raffle The Major Raffle was drawn last Saturday. The winner of the First prize valued at $3,000 was ticket number 164 - Leo Kinwell and the Second prize valued at $1,000 was won by ticket number 36 - The Porcaro family. Next and last match for the season On Saturday we play away at Port Melbourne in our last league match of the season. The only thing at stake in this game is that we can leapfrog Port if we win. However, there is still much to play for at the top and bottom of our league. Malvern City lead Doncaster Rovers by a point at the top and either Casey Comets or South Springvale will be relegated. Casey only needs a point against already relegated Kingston City for it not to be them, even if South Springvale manages to beat Dandenong City.
Knox City 3 Morwell Pegasus 0 Safe at last. In what was probably our best display of the season and the first match we have scored more than two goals all season, we finally confirmed that we will be in Division Two next year with a well deserved victory. Two goals to Joshua Valadon and one to Daniel Veljovic earned us all three points but this was a solid all round performance with no weak links anywhere on the park. The Reserves scored a late winner to beat Morwell 2-1 in the opener. This might have been a hangover from clinching the championship last week, but it was not one of our better performances. Next Match This week's home game against Morwell Pegasus assumes massive proportions given the results on the weekend. It would be good to see a big crowd there to spur on the players to get the three points we need to reach safety.
Knox City 0 Dandenong City 1 A thundering strike in the 51st minute consigned us to yet another defeat. Worse was to come as the other results saw victories to South Springvale and Casey Comets, leaving us perilously embroiled in the relgation battle for at least another week. This was a much better performance than last week but in the end it counted for little. The good news of the day was the Reserves 3-0 victory which sealed their well-deserved league title. They are now 10 points clear with only two games to go. Goals to Garry Bakker in the first half and Shayan Missaghi and Matt Evans after the break gave us a comfortable victory after squandering a number of first half chances. Casey Comets 0 Knox City 0 Casey dominated large periods of this game, but a fine exhibition of goalkeeping from Mark Jorgensen kept us in the match and amazingly Daniel Veljovic almost snatched an unlikely three points in the last minute of stoppage time when his goalbound shot was blocked. With the bottom two teams drawing 1-1, no ground was lost as we inch closer to mathematical safety. The Reserves took full advantage of second placed Doncaster Rovers dropping points when they scored an emphatic 3-0 victory over Casey to take a seven point lead over their chasers. With three games to go, their resources are stretched and again a number of Under 18s and Under 15s came to the rescue. An average age of just 17 years speaks well for the future. This Week's Match On Saturday, we travel to play Casey Comets. The reverse match was drawn 2-2 when Casey scored a 93rd minute penalty to level the scores. Casey has made a good recovery from a disastrous start to the season and like us will be looking for points to keep themselves clear of the relegation zone. Our Reserves will be looking to keep the chasing teams at bay in their quest to become Champions.
Knox City 1 Eastern Lions 2 Former Knox player Marty O'Hare ruined our day with a well taken free kick to grab all three points for the visitors. Josh Valadon had equalised seven minutes earlier but a defensive error gifted O'Hare the chance to make us wait at least another week to ensure safety. South Springvale losing 7-0 to Doncaster Rovers did us no harm, as did Kingston's loss to Port Melbourne, but it also highlighted the lost opportunity as victory would have just about made us mathematically safe. Next Match On Saturday we are at home to Eastern Lions. We won the reverse fixture 1-0 with a 92nd minute Daniel Veljovic goal. We will be looking to consolidate our recent improvement in form. Following the match there will be a Karaoke night. Tickets are $10 each.
Diamond Valley Utd 1 Knox City 2 An 81st minute penalty converted by DVU gave us an anxious 10 minutes or so after dominating the game. Cracking goals to Cam Jones in the 26th minute and Sebastian Barrero in the 66th had put Knox in a commanding position, but as they say 2-0 is the worst score to protect. With South Springvale losing and Casey Comets drawing, this win gives us some breathing space. The Reserves beat a competitive DVU side 3-1 to keep their 5 point lead at the top of the league. With five games to go they will have to drop two games and Doncaster win all five to lose the title. A mention to Shannon Egan, who stepped into goal with Chris Marshall's injury. A couple of fine saves in the second half before Linley Lavadure, in his last game before going back to the States scored the third goal. Next Match On Saturday, we are away at Diamond Valley United. They play at Partington Flats in Greensborough. The reverse fixture finished in a 1-1 draw earlier in the season.
Knox City 2 Heatherton United 0 We broke our losing streak of three with a well deserved 2-0 victory over Heatherton Utd. A dominant first half performance was rewarded with a Josh Valadon headed goal in the 22nd minute after good work by Andy Hughes and Sebastian Barrero. Cam Jones capitalised on a defensive error in the 65th minute to wrap up all three points and move us up one place. The Reserves blew Heatherton away 8-0 to take a five pont lead at the top of their division. Malvern City 2 Knox City 0 A much more organised performance in the first half but two lapses of concentration midway through the second period consigned us to another defeat. So far, other results have gone our way so no change at the wrong end of the table.The Reserves blew a 2-1 lead to go down 3-2 in the opening game. This Week's Game We are away to Malvern City at Kooyong Park No 3 this Saturday. In the reverse fixture earlier in the season, we suffered a 4-0 defeat.
Knox City 1 Kingston City 2 Things went from bad to worse with another defeat. For the second week in a row, we lost to the bottom team. Kingston scored in the second minute and then two minutes from time to snatch all three points. The Reserves kept up their good form with a 2-0 victory in the opening game. Knox City - The first Club in Victoria to be accredited under the FFV's Football ACE program! Yesterday, Knox City was presented with its Group Stage certificate of accreditation under the FFV's Club Excellence Program. We are the first club in Victoria to be accredited. The presentation was made by the Victorian Sports Minister, James Merlino. Also present were the CEO of FFV, Mark Rendell and the Mayor of Knox, Cr. David Cooper. Carolyn White who made two splendid cakes for the morning tea. Geoff Ellison and Glenn Eason who organised the Small-sided Football session for nearly forty of our sub-juniors and junior players. All of the children had their photo taken with our guests. Everyone who turned up to make this an occasion that show-cased our Club in the best possible light.
Club Office Due to the need to prepare for the visit of the State Sports Minister this week, the club office will be open on Wednesday and Thursday morning for this week only.
Recent Player Movements Recent movements prior to the transfer deadline saw Joshua Woods joining us from Western Suburbs. Joshua played his first game for us against South Springvale. Moving in the opposite direction were Chris Reid who joined Western Suburbs and Boris Karaga.
Knox City 1 South Springvale 3 A set back to our recent improvement with a 3-1 loss to the bottom team. Going a goal down in the first minute did not help, but Sebastian Barrero equalised midway through the first half. The Souths keeper then performed heroics to keep his side in the game before a needless penalty gifted the visitors the lead. A further goal compounded a poor day. The Reserves scored an emphatic 6-0 victory with a number of Under 15 players contributing to this win. The Report has now been posted.More

Knox City 1 Doncaster Rovers 1 Our season revival continued with a well deserved point against the league leaders. A soft goal just on half-time gifted Rovers the lead, which they did not deserve. Sebastian Barrero fired home the equaliser in the 62nd minute, before we lost Craig Kerr to a second yellow card two minutes later. Such is the belief in the team at the minute that Rovers were unable to capitalise on 30 minutes with an extra man. The Reserves drew 1 -1 to maintain top spot. The report has been posted.More

Major Raffle The winning ticket for this week's home game draw in the major raffle was number 150 - Mick Hingert.
Knox City 1 Port Melbourne 0 Ask us what our favourite minute is and the answer will come back very quickly - the 92nd minute. Although we have struggled for goals so far this season, nine in total, four have come in the 92nd minute and today was no exception. Daniel Veljovic scored with an overhead shot from close range to give us all three points. It wasn't pretty but it was a good fighting display that amazingly leaves us only six points from second position despite our less than perfect first half of the season.
The Reserves had a nightmare first half and lost their unbeaten record when they went down 5-2 to Port Melbourne. Giving the opposition a three goal start was always going to mean a tough day at the office and so it turned out. The team stays top on goal difference. The full report has now been added More.

Doncaster Rovers 2 Knox City 0 Another away defeat, this time at Doncaster on Friday night. Injuries sustained in this game wil not help in coming weeks. Dandenong City 2 Knox City 0 No luck at Dandenong as we went down to another loss. Plenty of effort but a number of fine saves by the Dandnong keeper helped keep us scoreless. The Reserves won their game 2-0. The Match report More and Player Statistics have now been posted..
Next Games On Saturday, we start a run of three consecutive away games at Dandenong City, which merged before the season with Chelsea. They play at Frank Holohan Reserve, Endeavour Hills. The following week, we have our catch-up game against Doncaster Rovers on Friday 5th June and then we face the long trip to the LaTrobe Valley to play Morwell Pegasus, before we complete the first half of the season at home to Port Melbourne on 20th June. Knox City 2 Casey Comets 2 It was our turn to concede a late, late goal this week as a 94th minute penalty denied Knox City of all three points. Cam Jones and Josh Valadon had given us the lead but with Chris Reid's 52nd minute red card it proved too difficult to defend for 40 plus minutes. The match report has now been posted More. Next Game On Saturday, we are at home to Casey Comets. Casey has had a horror start to the season picking up only two points in six matches. We get on well with the Comets, so we hope they improve, but only after this weekend.
Eastern Lions 0 Knox City 1 We are still not firing on all cylinders but a 90th minute goal from Cameron Jones was enough to give us all three points in the hard fought but largely forgettable encounter today. The Reserves lost their 100% record but earned a 0-0 draw despite having Andy Hughes harshly sent off just before half-time. Next Week's Game Next Saturday we travel to Gardiner's Reserve, Burwood to meet old foes, Eastern Lions. They started their season with three straight wins but have since suffered three straight losses to sit on nine points. We need to get a result to start our climb up the table.
New Signing We have signed Chris Reid from Premier League Heidelberg United. Chris played a half in the Reserves against Diamond Valley and came on as a second half sub in the First Team match. Chris played with Hamilton Accademicals in the Scottish league before coming to Australia.

200 First Team Games Next Saturday against Diamond Valley Utd, Anthony Edgar will play his 200th first team game for Knox City. He has been one of our most consistent performers over many years and this milestone is well deserved.
Heatherton Utd 4 Knox City 1 A second dismal performance in a row saw us slip to third bottom place with the chance of falling into the bottom two if Kingston City pick up a point on Monday night.. We have also shipped four goals in consecutive weeks. The Reserves maintained their 100% record with a 4-0 victory. The match report is now posted.More Player statistics have also been updated. Next week we host Diamond Valley Utd. They lost their first match of the season but have bounced back to go four undefeated since. They usually provide stiff opposition.
Player News We are pleased to announce that we have signed experienced midfielder, Alex Jackson from Malvern City. Alex was signed too late to play against his old club yesterday but will no doubt figure in team selection this week. Moving the other way was Nick Agetzis, who we understand has joined Port Melbourne. Youngster Michael McCluskey has also decided to move back to Sandringham City to get greater playing opportunities.

Next Weeks's Match On Saturday 25th April, we play our first home game of the season versus Malvern City who have started the season with two wins and a loss. Saturday also sees the start of the Small-sided football season and the following day, all Women, Junior Boys and Junior Girls kick-off.
Our Next Match The Seniors's second game of the season is away to Kingston City on Monday night - Reserves kick off at 6.00 and the First Team at 8.30. Kingston's ground is at The Grange, Osborne Road and full details can be found on the Seniors page.

Players wanted - Under 13 Super League Due to the late inclusion of our team into the South-East Super League the team requires the services of a quality striker or sweeper. 9 of our players represented the Eastern Zone in the Summer League so we have a core of quality players.
We train Wednesday and Friday nights 6.30-8.00pm. The club offers a distinct pathway from juniors to seniors which are currently playing in State 2. Playing at Knox will allow you to qualify for the Eastern region in next years Summer League.

The Season starts here The 2009 season starts this weekend for Knox City with an away match at South Springvale. We are trying to go one better than last year's second placing. South Springvale plays at Warner Reserve, Flynn Street, Springvale (Melway 80 A8).
Women's, Junior and Small-sided Football Leagues Structure for 2009 The League structures have been announced by the FFV. It can be viewed in full by clicking on the link below and choosing the relevant section that you wish to view. The good news is that a number of Knox City teams are in higher leagues than anticipated. Breaking News - Seniors game v Doncaster Rovers The FFV has just officially announced that our first game of the season, against Doncaster Rovers scheduled for this Friday night, has been postponed to Friday 5th June. We understand that there is an issue with Manningham Council decreeing that no grounds in their city may be used for football before 1st April. Unofficially, this was known on Thursday of last week, but it has taken until now for the FFV to post a new date on their website.
Goalkeeper Coaching Goalkeeper coaching for Juniors will commence on Tuesday 24th March at Egan Lee Reserve between 6.00 and 7.00. Roy Lawton looks forward to seeing any aspiring keepers at these sessions.
Senior Fixtures We have just been advised by the FFV that our request to reverse our first two matches (and the reverse fixtures with the same teams) has been approved. This means that our first home game will not be until 25th April. We have also been advised verbally that Diamond Valley's home ground was incorrectly shown by the FFV as Yallambie Park Reserve. Small-sided Football Registration for Small-sided Football (previously known as Small-sided Games) will take place at Egan Lee Reserve, Wallace Road, Knoxfield on Tuesday 3rd March between 7.00 and 8.30 p.m. All children from 5 years to Under 10 years can be registered on this night. An information session on small-sided football run by the Football Federation will be held at the ground later in March.
