Knox City 1 South Springvale 3 A set back to our recent improvement with a 3-1 loss to the bottom team. Going a goal down in the first minute did not help, but Sebastian Barrero equalised midway through the first half. The Souths keeper then performed heroics to keep his side in the game before a needless penalty gifted the visitors the lead. A further goal compounded a poor day. The Reserves scored an emphatic 6-0 victory with a number of Under 15 players contributing to this win. Full report to follow.

This Week's Match On Saturday, we entertain South Springvale. The reverse fixture was a 0-0 draw in our first game of the season.
Knox City 1 Doncaster Rovers 1 Our season revival continued with a well deserved point against the league leaders. A soft goal just on half-time gifted Rovers the lead, which they did not deserve. Sebastian Barrero fired home the equaliser in the 62nd minute, before we lost Craig Kerr to a second yellow card two minutes later. Such is the belief in the team at the minute that Rovers were unable to capitalise on 30 minutes with an extra man. The Reserves drew 1 -1 to maintain top spot. The report has been posted.More

Knox City 1 Port Melbourne 0 Ask us what our favourite minute is and the answer will come back very quickly - the 92nd minute. Although we have struggled for goals so far this season, nine in total, four have come in the 92nd minute and today was no exception. Daniel Veljovic scored with an overhead shot from close range to give us all three points. It wasn't pretty but it was a good fighting display that amazingly leaves us only six points from second position despite our less than perfect first half of the season.
The Reserves had a nightmare first half and lost their unbeaten record when they went down 5-2 to Port Melbourne. Giving the opposition a three goal start was always going to mean a tough day at the office and so it turned out. The team stays top on goal difference. The full report has now been added More.

Doncaster Rovers 2 Knox City 0 Another away defeat, this time at Doncaster on Friday night. Injuries sustained in this game wil not help in coming weeks. The only bright spot was the continued good form of the Reserves. With three Under 15s in their squad they went three points clear at the top. The report has now been posted.More
Dandenong City 2 Knox City 0 No luck at Dandenong as we went down to another loss. Plenty of effort but a number of fine saves by the Dandnong keeper helped keep us scoreless. The Reserves won their game 2-0. The Match report More and Player Statistics have now been posted..
Next Games On Saturday, we start a run of three consecutive away games at Dandenong City, which merged before the season with Chelsea. They play at Frank Holohan Reserve, Endeavour Hills. The following week, we have our catch-up game against Doncaster Rovers on Friday 5th June and then we face the long trip to the LaTrobe Valley to play Morwell Pegasus, before we complete the first half of the season at home to Port Melbourne on 20th June. Knox City 2 Casey Comets 2 It was our turn to concede a late, late goal this week as a 94th minute penalty denied Knox City of all three points. Cam Jones and Josh Valadon had given us the lead but with Chris Reid's 52nd minute red card it proved too difficult to defend for 40 plus minutes. The match report has now been posted More. Next Game On Saturday, we are at home to Casey Comets. Casey has had a horror start to the season picking up only two points in six matches. We get on well with the Comets, so we hope they improve, but only after this weekend.
Eastern Lions 0 Knox City 1 We are still not firing on all cylinders but a 90th minute goal from Cameron Jones was enough to give us all three points in the hard fought but largely forgettable encounter today. The Reserves lost their 100% record but earned a 0-0 draw despite having Andy Hughes harshly sent off just before half-time. To make matters worse, the Referee awarded a penalty but Chris Marshall saved the spot kick. The report has now been posted.More The Player Statistics have also been updated.
Team Photos Team photos are scheduled for next Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Clubrooms. Kangaroo Photos will be again taking all photos. Your team manager has been given the schedule and the order pack. Photos have to be paid for by the night of the shoot. All queries to Sian Porcaro.
Next Week's Game Next Saturday we travel to Gardiner's Reserve, Burwood to meet old foes, Eastern Lions. They started their season with three straight wins but have since suffered three straight losses to sit on nine points. We need to get a result to start our climb up the table.
New Signing We have signed Chris Reid from Premier League Heidelberg United. Chris played a half in the Reserves against Diamond Valley and came on as a second half sub in the First Team match. Chris played with Hamilton Accademicals in the Scottish league before coming to Australia.

200 First Team Games Next Saturday against Diamond Valley Utd, Anthony Edgar will play his 200th first team game for Knox City. He has been one of our most consistent performers over many years and this milestone is well deserved.
Heatherton Utd 4 Knox City 1 A second dismal performance in a row saw us slip to third bottom place with the chance of falling into the bottom two if Kingston City pick up a point on Monday night.. We have also shipped four goals in consecutive weeks. The Reserves maintained their 100% record with a 4-0 victory. The match report is now posted.More Player statistics have also been updated. Next week we host Diamond Valley Utd. They lost their first match of the season but have bounced back to go four undefeated since. They usually provide stiff opposition.
Player News We are pleased to announce that we have signed experienced midfielder, Alex Jackson from Malvern City. Alex was signed too late to play against his old club yesterday but will no doubt figure in team selection this week. Moving the other way was Nick Agetzis, who we understand has joined Port Melbourne. Youngster Michael McCluskey has also decided to move back to Sandringham City to get greater playing opportunities.
Knox City 0 Malvern City 4 The less said about this peformance the better. Going behind in the fourth minute, we were always chasing the game and got punished badly on the break in the second half. Kingston City 1 Knox City 2 Two goals in two minutes to super-striker, Daniel Veljovic were enough to take all three points in a tough encounter at The Grange. Knox had fallen a goal behind before Danny continued his incredible scoring run, which now stands at 18 goals in 25 first team games. The match report has now been uploaded More. Next Weeks's Match On Saturday 25th April, we play our first home game of the season versus Malvern City who have started the season with two wins and a loss. Saturday also sees the start of the Small-sided football season and the following day, all Women, Junior Boys and Junior Girls kick-off.
Our Next Match The Seniors's second game of the season is away to Kingston City on Monday night - Reserves kick off at 6.00 and the First Team at 8.30. Kingston's ground is at The Grange, Osborne Road and full details can be found on the Seniors page.
South Springvale 0 Knox City 0 The first game of the season ended in a goalless draw at Warner Reserve. The Match Report (More) and Player Statistics (More) have now been posted. Due to Easter, our next match is not until Monday 20th April when we are away to Kingston City.
Forthcoming Dates to Note Tuesday 14th April - Board Meeting Tuesday 21st April at 7.30 - Junior Team Managers and Coaches Meeting. Each team must be represented. Tuesday 28th April at 7.30 - Junior Sub-committee meeting. All volunteers welcome.
Players wanted - Under 13 Super League Due to the late inclusion of our team into the South-East Super League the team requires the services of a quality striker or sweeper. 9 of our players represented the Eastern Zone in the Summer League so we have a core of quality players.
We train Wednesday and Friday nights 6.30-8.00pm. The club offers a distinct pathway from juniors to seniors which are currently playing in State 2. Playing at Knox will allow you to qualify for the Eastern region in next years Summer League.

The Season starts here The 2009 season starts this weekend for Knox City with an away match at South Springvale. We are trying to go one better than last year's second placing. South Springvale plays at Warner Reserve, Flynn Street, Springvale (Melway 80 A8).
Women's, Junior and Small-sided Football Leagues Structure for 2009 The League structures have been announced by the FFV. It can be viewed in full by clicking on the link below and choosing the relevant section that you wish to view. The good news is that a number of Knox City teams are in higher leagues than anticipated. Breaking News - Seniors game v Doncaster Rovers The FFV has just officially announced that our first game of the season, against Doncaster Rovers scheduled for this Friday night, has been postponed to Friday 5th June. We understand that there is an issue with Manningham Council decreeing that no grounds in their city may be used for football before 1st April. Unofficially, this was known on Thursday of last week, but it has taken until now for the FFV to post a new date on their website.
Goalkeeper Coaching Goalkeeper coaching for Juniors will commence on Tuesday 24th March at Egan Lee Reserve between 6.00 and 7.00. Roy Lawton looks forward to seeing any aspiring keepers at these sessions.
Senior Fixtures We have just been advised by the FFV that our request to reverse our first two matches (and the reverse fixtures with the same teams) has been approved. This means that our first home game will not be until 25th April. We have also been advised verbally that Diamond Valley's home ground was incorrectly shown by the FFV as Yallambie Park Reserve. Small-sided Football Registration for Small-sided Football (previously known as Small-sided Games) will take place at Egan Lee Reserve, Wallace Road, Knoxfield on Tuesday 3rd March between 7.00 and 8.30 p.m. All children from 5 years to Under 10 years can be registered on this night. An information session on small-sided football run by the Football Federation will be held at the ground later in March.
